Today we officially started potty training. The plan of attack for day one was to keep him naked from the waste down - no diaper, undies or pants of any kind. We started tanking him up with watery apple juice and salty snacks to promote thirst.
It took a couple hours, but Josh softly said "poop" so we headed to the potty. It was several minutes of distractions and getting him to sit still but he finally peed. Josh seems to say "poop" just as a general term to go potty, while "poo-poo" is for the actual thing.
We celebrated: "Yay!!! PEE-PEEE!!! Yay PEE-PEEE!!!"
After that the day went really well. He was peeing pretty regularly and good about telling us that he needed to.
The only real accident we had was while we were making Jell-O together. Josh just was too excited to be helping with the Jell-O that he didn't tell us he had to go. But we caught it quickly and he was able to finish in the potty. This also happened a little while making pizza.
After his nap (which he does wear a diaper for), he started just sitting on the potty without even telling us. I tell you, it was so amazing to see him do that. Our last potty of the day even had both pee and poop. I don't think he's going to be one of those kids who is resistant to pooping in
the potty. He's already done it lots of times.
Tomorrow the schedule is pretty much the same except that we do get to get out of the house for an hour. It basically is supposed to be seen as a reward to be able to go outside after using the potty. So I'm not sure what part of the day we will try to do that. It's a pretty exhausting process, but it is going very well!
