Winnie the Pooh

We took Josh to his first movie in the theater to see...

It was at the $2 theater, so if he didn't last very long, we wouldn't be out much money. The theater was pretty full with the lots of kids of all ages. The strangest was to see two teenage boys there together. But then again, how could anyone not love the Pooh, right?

Josh did so great, he sat on my lap for the first half and was mesmerized. He recognized the characters from his toys. We had brought along his big Tigger pillow pal, the pooh blanket and two little figurines of Pooh and Eeyore. Josh kept saying "Eeyore, Eeyore".

At about the halfway point he got up and we put him in the theater seat - the darn thing started to fold up on him and eat him alive! So Jim and I had to hold the seat down for our little guy. When the movie started he had no interest in trying popcorn, but then when he was in his seat, he was a good little American consumer and mindlessly ate the popcorn while transfixed on the movie like he'd been doing it for years and years.

Then the wigglies set in and he just had to be on his feet. Even still he was mostly good. He just kept saying "Hi" to a girl (probably 11-years-old) who was in the row in front of us. "Hi. Hi. Hi." This kid has the talent to be cute and annoying at the same time.

And we made it through the entire movie! Luckily it was just over and hour long, so we certainly can't do anything longer yet. But I'm so glad we did it!

Swiffer Man!

This video was shot about a month ago, but it shows how handy Josh has become.

He spent a good 15 minutes this morning Swiffering the house. I think I'll pay him in Cheerios.
That's not breaking any child labor laws, right?

Potty Training - Unofficially

I've had potty training on my mind for quite a while. I heard that between 18-24 months is a great time to train and if you miss that window it may not work again until close to 3-years-old. I bought a potty several months ago and we have just had it available for Josh to get used to sitting on. Haven't pushed the issue and he has had some scattered success with both elements.

In the last month or so I have wanted to get more serious about it. I read a three day method where you basically keep the child naked from the waste down for those three days. That's the approach I'm leaning towards and hope to do it Labor Day Weekend.

However, this morning Josh was sitting on my lap and I could feel the warmth of him peeing in his diaper. I made a big deal about this and had him feel the warmth and told him it was pee and that he could do that in the potty. When I took that diaper off, I decided not to put one back on. So we spent the morning with one naked butt running around.

I kept asking him if he needed to pee and we would sit on the potty occasionally with no results. After a couple hours I knew he had to be able to go. Instead of asking I just walked him to the potty. He sat down and immediately had quite a bit of pee. We celebrated!

Throughout the morning I could see him starting to get the concept and kind of telling me when he had to go. We got a few little dribbles in the potty and some very minor drips around the house.

The hardest part was lunch time. He kept dribbling (and telling me!!) so I would take him out of the chair and sit him on the potty only to get a drop or two. After the second or third time, he had quite a stream in his high chair and nothing could be done to catch it in time.

But I am feeling very proud that at a minimum he is learning to communicate the need. I put a diaper on him for nap time and he peed again while we were reading. I think he may have told me before he started going and seemed mildly distressed about going in his diaper.

It will be very interesting to see how this progresses.
I'll keep y'all posted!

Today's Smile

I love finding Josh's empty milk cup teetering on the edge of the kitchen counter because it means he tried to "put it away" but that was as far as his little body could reach.

Where Have You Been?

I don't know. I guess I've just been too distracted to blog lately. We've had some issues with our computer. Josh is busier, busier. It's summer. Yadda yadda yadda. I've got lots of excuses. But luckily I've got lots of blog post ideas. Hopefully I can just find the time to do them.

But I can give you one good distraction excuse...

We are expecting our second little one. YAY!!! Due in early February. No, we don't know if it's a boy or girl yet. Hopefully we will find out sometime in September.
